THE CATHOLIC VINE — TERMS & CONDITIONS OF SUPPLY

PLEASE READ THESE TERMS CAREFULLY BEFORE PLACING ANY ORDER. BY SUBMITTING AN ORDER ON OUR WEBSITE, YOU ACCEPT AND AGREE TO BE BOUND BY THESE TERMS.
The Catholic Vine is an entity appointed by the Southern African Catholic Bishops’ Conference (SACBC) to procure, store, certify and manage the national logistics for the supply and distribution of Mass Wine to all Archdioceses, Dioceses, Parishes, Religious Communities, and SACBC-approved entities within South Africa.
These Terms govern your use of our website and your purchase of Mass Wine.
- WHO WE ARE
The Catholic Vine is the authorised procurement, distribution and certification partner for Mass Wine on behalf of the SACBC.

We source Mass Wine directly from the Vineyards, and all logistical fulfilment is managed through logistics operations, who may contract third-party courier companies on our behalf.
- ELIGIBILITY & RESTRICTIONS
2.1 Mass Wine is supplied exclusively for liturgical use.
Orders may only be placed by:
– Parishes
– Archdiocesan/Diocesan offices
– SACBC-approved institutions
– Clergy, Religious Orders, or authorised church representatives
2.2 No Mass Wine may be resold commercially or distributed for non-liturgical purposes.
2.3 No purchase of alcohol is permitted by persons under 18 years of age.
- FORMATION OF CONTRACT
3.1 Placing an order constitutes an offer to purchase.
3.2 A contract is only formed once:
– Payment is received, and
– You receive a written Order Confirmation.
3.3 If a Product becomes unavailable after payment, we will notify you and refund you in full.
- PRODUCTS
4.1 Images on the website are for illustrative purposes only. Packaging and bottle appearance may differ slightly.
4.2 Stock availability is dependent on the Vineyards’ production schedules.
Where stock is depleted, we will refund any unavailable quantities.
- PRICING & PAYMENT
5.1 Prices listed are VAT inclusive.
5.2 Payment must be made in full before dispatch.
Accepted payment methods include:
– Credit/Debit card
– EFT
5.3 If an incorrect price is displayed, we reserve the right not to accept the order until the correct price is confirmed.
- DELIVERY & LOGISTICS
6.1 Deliveries are fulfilled via our logistics operation and their contracted courier network.
Delivery times are estimates and may vary depending on region.
6.2 Delivery may only be made to a physical address (no P.O. Boxes).
6.3 An adult (18+) must be present to receive delivery.
6.4 If you are absent at delivery, the courier will follow their standard re-delivery process. Additional fees may apply for repeated failed deliveries.
6.5 Risk passes to you upon delivery to the address provided.
Ownership transfers upon payment in full.
- DELAYS & FORCE MAJEURE
We are not liable for delays caused by:
– Courier backlogs
– Strikes
– Extreme weather
– Acts of God
– Regulatory or alcohol-transport restrictions
Where delays become material, you may request a cancellation and full refund for undelivered items.
- YOUR OBLIGATIONS
You agree to:
– Provide accurate delivery information.
– Ensure an authorised person is available to receive the goods.
– Inspect the goods immediately upon delivery.
- RETURNS & REFUNDS POLICY (THE CATHOLIC VINE)
9.1 Damaged, Broken, or Incorrect Products
We accept returns only in the following situations:
– Product arrives broken
– Product arrives damaged
– Incorrect product/quantity is delivered
9.1.2 To initiate a damage claim:
– Report the issue within 24 hours of delivery.
9.1.3 Provide clear photos of:
- The damaged goods
- The packaging
- The courier’s delivery label
9.1.4 Keep all original packaging until the claim is processed.
We will arrange collection and replacement at our cost, or issue a refund if replacement is not possible.
9.2 No-Returns Policy
Once goods have been delivered in good condition, and all The Catholic Vine’s obligations have been met, no returns or refunds will be processed, including for reasons such as:
– Over-ordering
– Change of preference
– Surplus stock
– Incorrect order submitted by the parish/organisation
– Storage issues after delivery
Mass Wine is a consumable and is governed by the Consumer Protection Act’s exclusions for everyday consumables and beverages.
- CANCELLATIONS
10.1 Orders may be cancelled only before dispatch.
10.2 After dispatch, cancellation is not possible.
- LIMITATION OF LIABILITY
To the fullest extent permitted by South African law:
– We are not liable for indirect, consequential, or financial losses.
– Our liability is limited to the value of the affected order.
– We are not liable for storage, misuse, or deterioration occurring after delivery.
- PRIVACY & DATA PROTECTION
We process personal information solely to fulfil your order and administer SACBC-authorised distribution.
We do not sell or share your data with external parties, other than our logistics partners and the Vineyards where necessary to complete your order.
- GOVERNING LAW
These Terms are governed by the laws of the Republic of South Africa, and any disputes may be brought in the appropriate South African courts.
- AMENDMENTS
We may amend these Terms from time to time.
The version published on our website at the time of order placement will apply to that transaction.
PART B — INTERNATIONAL TERMS & CONDITIONS (Outside South Africa)
- INTRODUCTION
These Terms govern all international orders of Mass Wine supplied by The Catholic Vine to customers outside the Republic of South Africa. Mass Wine is supplied exclusively for liturgical use and only to authorised ecclesiastical bodies.

We procure Mass Wine directly from the Vineyards and manage product certification and international distribution through selected freight partners.
- INTERNATIONAL ORDER ELIGIBILITY
International buyers must:
– Ensure Mass Wine can legally be imported into their country
– Obtain any required import permits, religious exemptions, or alcohol licenses
– Confirm that the receiving parish/institution has authority to import sacramental wine
3.1 The Catholic Vine does not take responsibility for:
– Import restrictions
– Customs refusals
– Customs fees, duties, import VAT
– Seizure or destruction of goods by customs authorities
All compliance responsibility lies entirely with the buyer.
- PRICING, TAXES & DUTIES
4.1 All prices are quoted in South African Rand (ZAR) unless stated otherwise.
4.2 Prices do not include:
– Import VAT
– Customs duties
– Excise taxes
– Clearance fees
– Destination port charges
– Handling fees charged by the receiving country
4.3 All such charges are the sole responsibility of the importer.
4.4 The Catholic Vine will not reimburse or compensate for customs related costs or losses.
- SHIPPING, FREIGHT & DELIVERY
Orders may ship via international couriers or freight forwarders. Risk transfers to the buyer once goods are handed to the export carrier.
- Freight Arrangements
Orders may be shipped via:
– International couriers (where allowed)
– Air freight
– Sea freight
– Road Freight
– Freight forwarders selected either by The Catholic Vine or the customer
5.2 Transit Risk
Due to the nature of alcohol export:
– Transit times are estimates only and may vary substantially
– The Catholic Vine is not liable for international courier delays or customs delays
– Insurance is not included unless explicitly purchased
5.3 Delivery Completion
Delivery is considered complete when:
– Products are handed over to the freight carrier for export, or
– The importer’s nominated agent signs for collection
At this point, all risk transfers to the buyer.
- INTERNATIONAL RETURNS & DAMAGE POLICY
6.1 No Returns Accepted Internationally
Due to customs, alcohol restrictions, and export laws:
Returns are NOT accepted for any international order, except in the rare case of manufacturing defects identified before export, at our premises.
- Damage in Transit
Because breakages often occur during international transport:
– Claims must be made directly with the freight carrier, unless the shipment is insured.
– We cannot refund or replace goods damaged after export, unless previously insured.
6.3 Pre-Export Quality Check
All international shipments undergo:
– Visual inspection
– Packaging reinforcement
– Seal verification
Our responsibility ends once the goods leave South Africa.
- CANCELLATION POLICY
Cancellations are only accepted before the bottling process begins.
Once the product has been dispatched from the storage facility and delivered to the bottling plant, no cancellations or refunds are possible.
- LIABILITY LIMITATION
To the maximum extent allowed by law:
– We are not liable for customs confiscation, duty charges, transit delays, or transit losses
– Our total liability is limited to the value of the goods before export
– No compensation is given for consequential or indirect loss
- PRIVACY & DATA PROTECTION
We process personal information solely to fulfil your order and administer SACBC-authorised distribution.
We do not sell or share your data with external parties, other than with our logistics partners and the Vineyards where necessary to complete your order.
- GOVERNING LAW
– These Terms are governed by the laws of the Republic of South Africa
– Disputes must be brought before the High Court of South Africa
– No foreign jurisdiction applies
- AMENDMENTS
We may amend these Terms from time to time.
The version published on our website at the time of order placement will apply to that transaction.
